Christine Stecker introduced the concept of Flash Clash. A Flash Clash is a role play aiming at getting a new perspective on a subject and in particular the goals and the points of view of different stakeholders. In this case of a Flash Clash there were representatives of the students, the administration, the professors and the president.
Christine Stecker asked the brave participants of the Flash Clash questions about the chosen topic: Gender equality in a HEI. For example it was about the contribution each stakeholder makes to gender equality in the fictional university. It was interesting that the female role player as the representative of the administration immediately slipped into an offensive behaviour while the male counterpart in the role of the president acted defensively. The conflict in this game occurred between the administration and the president.
The role players seemed to have fun and the audience as well. In some situations they all seemed to be kind of thoughtful about what happened and what was said at the role player’s stage. The Flash Clash reached its goal: It opened a new perspective to different stakeholder’s points of view.
